Dual (Double) Layer DVDs     Guest: Tim Clatterbuck and Bob DeMoulin
Verbatim® Corporation is an industry pioneer in bringing advanced DVD technologies to market. Sony is a leading manufacturer of audio, video, communications, and information technology products for the consumer and professional markets. Verbatim's new DataLifePlus discs are the industry’s first Double-Layer DVD+R (DVD+R DL) discs. The new 2.4x DataLifePlus media nearly doubles the storage capacity on DVD recordable discs from 4.7GB to 8.5GB on a single side while maintaining compatibility with existing DVD video players and DVD-ROM drives. With the release of the new DRU-700A Double Layer DVD+RW Drive, Sony is the first on the market with a burner utilizing this format.

Tim Clatterbuck, Manager Optical Storage for Verbatim and Bob DeMoulin, Manager for Sony Branded Optical Storage Products, tell how double layering was conceived and implemented.
